Uniroyal at a glance
Uniroyal began in 1892, when nine rubber companies in the USA merged to form the United States Rubber Company. The name Uniroyal was adopted in 1961. The company also created Keds trainers. In 1969 Uniroyal developed the first rain tyres, whose V-shaped tread pattern channels water out from under the tyre. Ever since, the brand has been associated with wet roads.
In Europe, the Uniroyal trademark has belonged to Continental since 1979, when it bought Uniroyal's European business, formerly the Belgian company Englebert. In North America, by contrast, the same name belongs to Michelin. European Uniroyal tyres are made in Continental factories. The brand is a mid-range choice for drivers who cover a lot of miles in a rainy climate and want a major group's technology at a lower price.
Uniroyal's summer tyres carry the word Rain in their names. The best known are the RainSport 5 for sportier cars and the RainExpert 5 and RainExpert 6 for everyday driving. For year-round use, the brand offers the AllSeasonExpert 3. Common winter tyres include the WinterExpert and, for vans, the Snow Max 3. There are no Nordic studded tyres in the Uniroyal range, so for icy roads you will need to choose another brand.
