Toyo at a glance
Toyo Tire was born in August 1945, when two Japanese rubber companies merged. One of them had been set up by the textile firm Toyo Boseki, which wanted to develop the country's rubber industry. In 1953 a car tyre factory opened in the city of Itami, and the headquarters later moved there too. In 2019 the company changed its name from Toyo Tire & Rubber to simply Toyo Tire Corporation.
Toyo is an independent Japanese company whose sister brand is Nitto, which focuses on SUV tyres. Its tyres are made in Japan, the USA and Asia, and since 2022 also at the Inđija factory in Serbia – Toyo's first factory in Europe. Its European sales centre is in Willich, Germany. Toyo is a mid-range brand that suits cars and SUVs alike.
The best-known summer tyres are the Toyo Proxes Sport and Proxes Comfort, with the Open Country series for SUVs. For Nordic winters, Toyo offers the Observe Ice-Freezer studded tyre and the Observe GSi-6 non-studded tyre. The Snowprox S954 is designed for Central European winters, and the Celsius AS2 for year-round use. Toyo is also well known among owners of sports cars and tuned cars.
