Ceat at a glance
Ceat is an Indian tyre maker with an Italian name. The company was founded in Turin in 1924 as Cavi Elettrici e Affini Torino and originally made electrical cables. The CEAT abbreviation stuck even after the business moved to India. CEAT Tyres of India was established in Mumbai in 1958, and in 1982 the company passed into the ownership of India's RPG Group, which still owns it today.
Ceat makes more than 48 million tyres a year for cars, motorcycles, lorries and tractors. Its factories are in India – for example in Halol, in Butibori near Nagpur, and in Chennai – and it also has a joint venture in Sri Lanka. In 2023 Ceat received the Deming Prize for quality management. In Europe, Ceat sits in the budget price bracket and suits drivers looking for a low-cost alternative to well-known European brands.
In the European market, Ceat offers car ranges with refreshingly simple names. Ceat summer tyres include the comfort-oriented SecuraDrive, the economical EcoDrive and the sportier SportDrive. Ceat winter tyres go by the name WinterDrive and are designed for Central European winter conditions. For year-round driving there is the 4SeasonDrive. In Europe, Ceat is also known as a sports sponsor – for example as the official tyre partner of Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
